Headline: Family Forced to Flee Village After Reporting MGNREGA Scam

A family from Sanwarpur village in Bhadohi district has alleged that they were forced to abandon their home and escape to Varanasi after they were brutally attacked by a group of nearly 40–50 influential local persons. The incident reportedly occurred after the family exposed large-scale corruption in MGNREGA development works in their village.

Victim Nandalal Gaur stated that he had submitted a written complaint regarding serious irregularities in MGNREGA projects to officials who visited the village for inspection. Soon after this complaint, a violent mob attacked his house, assaulted him, his wife, daughter, and children, and destroyed household belongings, leaving the entire family injured, traumatized, and mentally disturbed.

When the victim family approached the local police station to register their complaint, they were allegedly rebuked and turned away without proper assistance. Although an FIR was later registered, it contained only minor charges, enabling the accused persons to roam freely and continue threatening the family with death and kidnapping.

Fearing for their lives and seeking justice and protection, the family reached IG Zone, Varanasi, where officials listened to their complaint and demanded a detailed report from the Superintendent of Police, Bhadohi, assuring appropriate and lawful action.

Headline: Human Rights Organization Provides Shelter to Victim Family

A human rights organization extended immediate humanitarian support to a victim family that reported a massive scam in MGNREGA funds and was attacked by powerful individuals from their village. The family arrived in Varanasi in desperation after being denied proper support at the local police station.

The victim, Nandalal, claimed that when a government inspection team visited Sanwarpur village to review his complaint, the accused attacked the family shortly after the team left. Women and children were severely beaten and verbally abused.

Members of Social Foundation of Human Rights, including State President Pradyumn Pandey, Dr. K. N. Pandey, and District President Jitendra Dubey, provided shelter, food, and emotional support to the family. They also guided the victims legally and ensured their safety.

The delegation accompanied the family to the Inspector General (IG) Zone, where the matter was formally presented. The IG ordered a fair and impartial investigation and directed concerned authorities to take strict legal action against the attackers.

With the assistance of Social Foundation of Human Rights, the victim family submitted a written grievance to the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary Office, demanding justice, security, and punishment for the accused persons involved in the violent attack.

The family stated that their only mistake was exposing corruption in public welfare schemes. They appealed for protection, fair investigation, and rehabilitation so that they could live with dignity and safety.

Support Provided by Social Foundation of Human Rights

On Monday (20-04-2015), the State President of Social Foundation of Human Rights, Mr. Pradyumn Pandey, along with State General Secretary Dr. K. N. Pandey, extended full support to the victim family.

Understanding the seriousness of the situation and recognizing the negligent and biased attitude of the local police, the organization directly contacted the Station Officer (SO) of Chaura Police Station, Bhadohi. Sensing attempts of suppression and superficial handling of the case, the Foundation team escorted the victim family to the Inspector General (IG) Office, Varanasi, where a formal complaint was registered.

Following this, the delegation also accompanied the family to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Ravindrapuri, Varanasi, where an official written grievance was submitted on behalf of the victims seeking justice and security.
